[Summer 2024] UDSM Dental Van Outreach
The UDSM Dental Van / Medical Outreach is an effort to bridge the gaps in dental/medical care access to individuals where they reside, at ROOTS Young Adult Shelter. This is an interprofessional event. Volunteers perform activities such as health assessment, motivational interviewing, vital sign acquisition, resource referral, and passing out essential living items with the goal of helping those in need and establishing a connection with local-area individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Location: ROOTS Young Adult Shelter 4541 19th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105; (206) 632-1635.
- Time: Saturday, June 29 from 10 AM-4 PM. Please arrive 30 minutes early or as directed by Christina prior to the event. Lunch will be provided.
Contact: Christina Tran, ctran17@uw.edu
***Please list your name, school/discipline, year, email, and phone number when signing-up!
*"Backup" volunteers will be contacted if a volunteer can no longer make their shift. Please DO NOT "give" your shift to a friend, as we want to make it fair and allow the next person on the list to attend.
Cancellations: If you sign-up for a session and need to cancel, please notify the Volunteer Coordinator Zain Zaidi (zzaidi@uw.edu) at least 3 days in advance. If canceling within 48 hours of outreach, please contact Co-Director Christina Tran.
How to prepare: Mask is required. Wear closed toed shoes and casual, comfortable clothing that is appropriate to bend over, kneel, and crouch in. Please refrain from wearing flashy items like expensive jewelry. All volunteers please bring your UDSM or UW name badge if you have one. Clinical students, bring a stethoscope/blood pressure cuff if you have one.
