ASCK Week 2016 Job Shadowing

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.

Job shadowing opportunities allow students to shadow an alumnus/a anywhere from a couple of hours to an entire day. You might go to an attorney’s office to observe meetings or depositions or go to court to sit in on hearings or trials.

You may only sign up for ONE shadowing opportunity and we recommend signing up for something that is closely aligned with your interests. Once registration is complete, you will be given the contact information for the alum you will shadow so you can coordinate the specific date and time with him/her for the shadowing experience. The date/time will be mutually arranged between the student and alum - it does not necessarily have to take place during ASCK Week.

The alumni offering job shadowing opportunities are:

• Victoria Gray ('07), Chief Attorney, Chicago Transit Authority (Labor/Employment). Date: Feb. 24th or another date TBD. Time: TBD. Opportunity to attend an arbitration hearing at CTA headquarters (or attend an executive session to work out details of settlement). Open to 1 student.

• Ali Ammoura (’12), Assistant Public Defender, Cook County Public Defender’s Office (Criminal). Location: 6th District Cook County Courthouse in Markham. Date/Time: TBD. Open to 4 students.

• Barry Brotine ('04), Vice President of Litigation, Fidelity National Financial - Chicago Title (Litigation). Date/Time & Location: TBD. Students may be able to attend court hearings, client meetings, depositions. Open to 4 students.

• Amy Weisberg ('02), Assistant Public Defender, Cook County Public Defender's Office (Criminal). Location: 2650 S. California. Date/Time: TBD (morning). Student may be able to attend court. Open to 1 student.

• Kavita Athanikar ('01), City Prosecutor, City of Naperville (Government). Date/Time & Location: TBD. Opportunity to attend court, meet government officials, sit in on liquor commission meetings. Open to 1 student.

• Gary Mages ('90), Partner, Mages & Price LLC (Real Estate/Property). Date/Time & Location: TBD. Opportunity to attend a real estate closing or court hearing. Open to 1 student.

• Raymon Grossman ('73), Self-Employed Attorney (General Practice). Location: Daley Center, Room 1102. Date/Time: February 25 at 9:30 a.m. Opportunity to hear civil cases on the court call. Open to 1 student.

• John Ourednik ('15), Associate, Invention Mine LLP (Intellectual Property: Patents/Copyright/Trademark). Date/Time & Location: TBD. Opportunity to observe a patent prosecution for 1/2 a day. Open to 1 student.

• Sue Price ('88), Prosecutor/Hearing Representative, Illinois Secretary of State (Government). Location: 17 N State St. Open to 2 students at 9:00 a.m. on Feb. 23. Open to 2 students at 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 23. Opportunity to observe formal license revocation reinstatement hearings at the Illinois Secretary of State. Issues discussed include: DUI, reckless homicide, fraudulent licenses, etc. In addition, substance abuse and mental health issues can be discussed.

• Hon. Robert Bertucci ('83), Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County (Election Law, Property Tax, Mental Health). Location: Daley Center. Opportunity to observe a court call in Hon. Bertucci's courtroom, discuss the cases on call (e.g., tax deed cases), and anything else of interest in the legal profession in his chambers. Dates: Feb. 22 (open to 2 students) and Feb 24 (open to 2 students). Time: TBD.

• Hon. Andrea Buford ('86), Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County (Judiciary). Date/Time & Location: TBD. Opportunity to sit in on child protection cases. Open to 2 students.

• Hon. Elizabeth Budzinski ('88), Associate Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County (Judiciary). Date/Time & Location: TBD. Opportunity to spend a day in court and see part of a trial and possibly a settlement conference. Open to 3 students.

• 2/1: Sam Castree ('13), Attorney, Crawford Intellectual Property Law (Intellectual Property: Patents, Copyright, Trademark). Date: Feb. 26. Location: TBD. Open to 1 student.
