[Winter 2025] UDSM Dental Van Outreach

The UDSM Dental Van / Medical Outreach is an effort to bridge the gaps in dental/medical care access to individuals dealing with homelessness. This is an interprofessional event. Volunteers perform activities such as health assessment, motivational interviewing, vital sign acquisition, resource referral, and passing out essential living items with the goal of helping those in need and establishing a connection with local-area individuals experiencing homelessness.

Limit maximum of TWO sign-up per UDSM site. Unlimited sign-up for back-up volunteer.

Tent City 3 (TC3)
Tent City 3 (TC3) is a portable and self-managed community for 90-100 people experiencing homelessness that has existed for over 30 years. UDSM is partnering with the Tent City Collective to provide foot care to the residents twice a month during their stay. These outreach sessions will consist of a preceptor and 2 health sciences students, who will provide foot care, wound care, or any other medical advice or assistance we can provide on the ground.

How to prepare: Mask is required. Wear closed toed shoes and casual, comfortable clothing that is appropriate to bend over, kneel, and crouch in. Please refrain from wearing flashy items like expensive jewelry. Bring your UDSM or UW name badge if you have one!
