"A poignant, gripping, angry and beautiful work." - Time

ABOUT THE PLAY:
This groundbreaking "choreopoem" is a spellbinding collection of vivid prose and free verse narratives about and performed by Black women. Capturing the brutal, tender, and dramatic lives of contemporary Black women, FOR COLORED GIRLS... offers a transformative, riveting evening of provocative dance, music, and poetry.

Casting for the following roles:
1. SEVEN dynamic and diverse female-identified performers of color with depth and range—students and non-students, faculty and staff, novices and veterans. Performers with spoken word, movement, and/or singing abilities highly encouraged to audition.

2. Women and men percussionists, particularly with experience playing the African djembe drum, for live music.

For speaking roles, prepare a memorized dramatic monologue or poem (approximately 1 minute) AND 16 bars of an a cappella song excerpt of your choice (approximately 30 seconds - 1 minute). Note: it is not necessary to be a singer, but performers should be able to carry a tune. Also, a dance will be taught, so come ready to move.

For percussionists, the below audition dates do not apply. Instead, contact production manager, Michelle Medvin, at mmedvin@govst.edu

For those cast, an initial rehearsal or two will be held in December, with additional rehearsals February-April, 2018. Performance dates are: April 5-8, 2018 at Governors State University's Center for Performing Arts.
