Notary Services

Hosted by applications@studyabroad.wisc.edu

Some countries require that some visa or residence permit application materials be notarized prior to submitting them to the appropriate consulate for processing. Free notary services are available to UW-Madison students who have been accepted to a UW study abroad program and are in the process of applying for their visa or residence permit.

Notary services are currently by appointment only on Mondays from 8am-noon and Thursdays from 1-4:30pm. You can anticipate the notary appointment to take approximately 15 minutes.

How do I prepare for a notary appointment?
• As required by state law, please bring your photo identification. This can be your passport, driver’s license or state ID. A UW ID is not a valid form of identification.
• Bring hard copies of any documents that must be notarized. They must be completed in their entirety (but not signed!) prior to your appointment.

During busy times of the year, we anticipate that these appointments will fill quickly. Please plan ahead and make appointments early. The Notary Public providing the notarization is not legally allowed to provide guidance on the application materials. If you have any questions, please contact your Study Abroad Advisor.
