Fiat Lux Dialogues on March 29th to Master Challenging Conversations with Leslie A. Garvin

IF SO, our one-day workshop series is tailored just for you! Join us for the inaugural installment of the Fiat Lux Dialogues: Common Ground Initiative on Friday, March 29th. We're excited to welcome Leslie A. Garvin to campus, leading a series of workshops focused on developing the skills and practices necessary to engage in and navigate challenging conversations effectively.

Here are the three workshops happening throughout the day:
• Deliberative Dialogue: In this immersive workshop, we’ll equip you with the skills to engage in meaningful conversations addressing the pressing global challenges of our time. 9:00am – 12:00pm. Deliberative Dialogues are a specific discussion and deliberation format based around Issue Guides developed by the National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI). Deliberation is a framework that ensures a careful, nonpartisan way of exploring what we hold most dear and possible solutions to challenging public problems.
• Civil Dialogue: In this space, you’ll acquire the essential tools to navigate challenging conversations with confidence. 12:30pm – 2:30pm. Civil Dialogue provides a place for civilized, facilitated citizen dialogues about provocative issues of our times. Informed by rhetorical criticism and theories of performance. Civil Dialogue provides an innovative tool for productive citizen communication. The format was created at the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University.
• Braver Discussions: Braver Discussions provides a supportive structure for people of differing political background to converse in a depolarizing world. 2:45pm – 4:45pm. Braver Discussions provide a supportive structure for people of differing political backgrounds to converse in a depolarizing, constructive manner about thorny policy issues of our time. The hands-on, three-step structure of Braver Discussions helps participants build confidence while engaging in the skills they are practicing. The model was created by the Braver Angels Alliance of Central North Carolina.
