    Course Description/Overview:
    The aim of this course is to enable University staff and postgraduate research students recognise and assess risks arising from the use of hazardous chemicals.

    Learning Outcomes:
    On returning to the workplace course participants will:
    • Understand the principles of risk assessments
    • Be able to identify the key requirements of health and safety and environmental legislation relating to the use of chemicals (including COSHH and DSEAR)
    • Understand the nature of exposure to hazardous substances
    • Be able to apply the hierarchy of control measures to manage risks
    • Know what is required for selection of appropriate personal protective equipment
    • Understand how to develop plans to deal with chemical emergency situations
