OCB Poetry Workshop: Daddy (with F. Douglas Brown and Geffrey Davis)
Thursday, March 26th, 2015
9:30-11:30 a.m.
Lamar Hall Conference Room, Room 323
Professors: F. Douglas Brown (Loyola High School) and Geffrey Davis (University of Arkansas)
Description: One does not have to be a parent to appreciate the well of memory, mystery and possibility that the theme of parenting opens up in poetry. Poems about parenthood often take risks in addressing confusion, unrest, bravery (and the lack thereof), and confession, as well as utter joy or utter sadness. In this two-hour workshop, F. Douglas Brown and Dr. Geffrey Davis (both fathers, sons, and poets) will use Sylvia Plath's poem "Daddy" as a springboard to explore how to negotiate parenting on the page.
